FAQ
GENERAL
What’s Hello Eyes all about?
We’re on a mission to help make shopping for glasses and contacts online a lot simpler and more convenient for everyone. Prescriptions can be such a hassle, especially if you’re not sure where you put it or if it still works. That’s why we created a free vision assessment to test your vision and recommend tools to help. At the end of the assessment, you get personalized results to guide your shopping experience—and maybe even save you a trip to the doctor’s office!
What payment methods do you accept?
All prices listed on our site are in CAD. We accept all standard credit and debit cards. Please note: we do not accept gift cards for home try-on orders.
How long will it take to get my order?
Your complete glasses order should take about 5-11 business days to arrive at your door. Specifically, we need about 2-5 days to manufacture your glasses (depending on your frames and customizations) and another 3-6 days for shipping.
Your contacts order should take about 4-7 business days to arrive at your door. Specifically, contacts usually ship within 24 hours (unless it’s out of stock and we need to order it). Shipping takes about 3-6 days.
VISION ASSESSMENT
How does the vision assessment work?
The vision assessment is a free guided experience designed to help make shopping for glasses easier. You’ll start by answering some simple questions about your vision history to give us a better sense of your vision needs. Then, you’ll tell us about your style preferences, so we can create a curated collection for you. The last part of the assessment is the vision check. This interactive tool checks to see if the prescription in your current glasses still works for you. You’ll wear your glasses, take about ten steps back, and then see how well you can read a series of letters on a digital eye chart at that distance. At the end of the assessment, you’ll get your personalized report. It includes your pass/fail result from the vision check, frame recommendations based on your style preferences, and any other offerings that could help make your shopping experience a little easier.
How much does the vision assessment cost?
It’s completely free. In fact, you can launch it right here right now if you want to.
What do my vision check results mean?
Passing the vision check portion of the assessment indicates that your current prescription still works for you and you can use it to shop with confidence.
If the digital eye chart is too blurry to make out the letters, that means your current prescription isn’t working as well as it once did and you’ll need to get a new one to see clearly. The good news is you can shop now and add your prescription anytime, even after checkout.
Lens Scanner
How do I conduct the scan?
The first step is syncing the app on your phone with a web address on your computer browser. The app will present you with a URL, which you’ll type into your browser window. Then use your phone to scan the QR code on your computer screen.
From there, you’ll position your glasses in-between the app and your desktop computer screen. The audio instructions will prompt you to tilt your glasses up and down to capture their prescription details.
The next step is calculating your Pupillary Distance (PD), or the distance between your pupils. To acquire it, you’ll be asked to hold a standard card (like a gym card) up to your forehead and take a selfie.
Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ll have everything you need to order a new pair of glasses using your existing prescription details.
How much does it cost to do the scan?
It’s free! You can scan as many glasses as you’d like.
How long does it take to do the scan at home?
Once you’ve downloaded the app, most users complete the scan in about 3-5 minutes.
How long do I have to wait for my results?
You’ll get your prescription details on both your phone and computer immediately. We recommend saving your results to your account or taking a screenshot to reference later.
Will the lens scanner work for me?
This tool only works on single-vision glasses. That means you’re good to go if you’re nearsighted, farsighted, or wear readers. It even works on lenses that correct for astigmatism.
It does not work on multifocal lenses, such as bifocals or progressives.
Specifically, the lens scanner can read prescriptions in this range: between -6.00 and +3.00, with a cylinder up to -2.50.
What do I need to complete the scan?
You’ll need:
• The Hello Eyes app (downloaded on your smartphone).
• A computer with a 12" screen or larger.
• A standard-sized card (like a debit card or library card).
Can I scan bifocal or progressive lenses?
Sadly, no. The tool only works on single-vision glasses. It cannot scan multifocal lenses, such as bifocals or progressives, at this time.
Can I use the prescription details to buy new glasses?
You sure can! Use this tool to extract the prescription details from a current pair of glasses. Then, save them to your account so you can use your existing prescription to shop for new favorites.
Can I use the lens scanner to get a new prescription?
No, this tool pulls the optical parameters from an existing pair of glasses. It cannot provide a brand new prescription or replace an eye exam. The lens scanner is helpful if you want to purchase new glasses using the same prescription in your current pair. Your prescription must be current and valid to order new glasses. The lens scanner has been tested and meets industry guidelines for accuracy. See full terms and conditions.
GLASSES
Can I make sure my glasses fit before buying them?
Yes! We have a few different features to help with fit. The first is home try-on, where you pick 4 frames, and we mail them to your house for free. This is a great way to explore your style and find the right fit for you!
For an instant option, try virtual try-on. This free feature is available for all of our frames.
We also have a free fit tool that does a quick scan of your face to recommend a size for you. You can try it here.
If you ever need a pair of Hello Eyes glasses adjusted, after purchase, we recommend visiting a local shop to ask for a fitting. It's usually free! But if they charge you for the service, we'll reimburse you up to $25. We also offer free returns for 60 days on all orders. So, if you order a pair and don't like the fit, you can return them for a full refund. We’ll even pay for return shipping! Just contact us for help.
Can I use my contacts prescription to order glasses?
No. A contact lenses prescription is different from a glasses prescription, because it includes a base curve and diameter measurement to fit the lenses to your eye. For this reason, you need different kinds of prescriptions for different products.
Not sure if you even need a new prescription? Our free vision assessment can test your current prescription to see if it still works for you.
How can I send you my prescription for my glasses?
You can add your prescription to your order during the checkout process. Or, if you prefer to wait until after checkout, simply head to your Hello Eyes account and select “view order details” to add it at a later time. You can upload a photo of it or type in the details manually.
I have a really weird prescription. Can you make glasses for me?
We can manufacture most prescriptions! Take a look at your prescription. If your total power (sphere + cylinder) adds up to a number within this range: between -12.00 and +6.00, we'll be able to make your glasses. If it's outside of that range or you’re not sure, please contact us to see if there's anything we can do.
Do you sell bifocals?
While we don't sell traditional bifocal lenses, if you need this type of correction, we do offer the more modern multifocal/progressive lenses that correct your vision at multiple distances.
Do you sell reading glasses?
We don't sell ready-made readers. But you can turn any frames on our site into a pair of readers by entering the + power you need into the "sphere" for your prescription. Contact us if you have questions and we'll help you through the process.
Do you sell progressives or multifocals?
Yes, we do! Our progressive lenses are a line-free lens made from a high-quality, polycarbonate lens material.
Do your glasses come with lens coatings?
Yes! We include anti-reflective, scratch resistant, and UV-protective coatings on all of our lenses for free! If you want additional enhancements, like anti-static and easy-to-clean coatings, add the deluxe coating to your order during checkout.
Do I have to pay extra for anti-reflection coatings?
Nope! All Hello Eyes glasses include anti-reflection coatings for free.
Do I need high-index lenses?
We recommend high-index lenses for any prescription over +3.50 or below -3.50.
What are blue light lenses?
Blue light glasses may help to filter out the blue light that emanates from the sun and from digital devices, like your smartphone or laptop. Many people are sensitive to how bright blue light can be, and blue light glasses may help reduce eye strain. Our blue light lenses feature a blue light filter that is sandwiched between the layers of the lens—so it's not a coating that will rub off over time.
Give them a try! If you're unsatisfied for any reason, you can get a full refund for up to 60 days after delivery. We’ll even pay for return shipping!
How long does it take to make my new glasses?
In general, manufacturing usually takes between 2-5 days, but it varies based on the product you've ordered. If you have questions about your order status, please contact us.
How can I return my glasses if I don’t like them?
You can get a full refund on your glasses within 60 days for any reason. Just contact us to get started.
What if my glasses don’t fit when they arrive?
Fit can be improved with a quick adjustment, which many optical shops do for free. If you ever need a pair of Hello Eyes glasses adjusted, we recommend visiting a local shop to ask for a fitting. If they charge you for the service, we'll reimburse you up to $25.
We also offer free returns for 60 days on all orders. So, if the fit isn't right and an adjustment doesn’t help, return them! We’ll help you find a pair that fits.
How do I take care of my glasses once I get them?
We're so glad you asked! Here are our best care tips for eyeglasses:
• Use your case! We know it’s tempting to hang your glasses from your collar or toss them on your nightstand. But they’re much safer from scratches in the case.
• Keep your lenses clean. Use the included microfiber cloth to wipe them clean throughout the day. Don't use your t-shirt or paper towels — those create tiny little scratches that get worse over time.
• For sticky spots, use warm water. Never use window cleaner or heavy cleansers on your lenses — they can actually remove or damage your lens coatings!
Do you sell transition lenses?
We offer our light responsive lenses that seamlessly transition from clear to sunglasses when exposed to UV rays. You can turn any style of glasses into light responsive lenses. Simply choose "light responsive" as your lens choice when you find a frame you love.
Do you sell prescription sunglasses?
We sure do! You can put sunglass lenses into any frame style. In fact, you can choose any lens type with any frame—so you get exactly what you want in your new pair of glasses! Simply choose "sun" as your lens choice when you find a frame you love.
What if I mess up my prescription details?
If you ever have any issues with the prescription you provide to us, we’re happy to make things right. You can send them back to get your lenses redone for free. Or, you can return any order within 60 days of delivery for a full refund, including free return shipping.
CONTACTS
Can I use my glasses prescription to order contacts?
No. A contact lenses prescription is different from a glasses prescription, because it includes a base curve and diameter measurement to fit the lenses to your eye. If you need a new contacts prescription, you’ll need to visit your eye doctor.
What if I mess up my prescription details?
If you ever have any issues with the prescription you provide to us, we’re happy to make things right. You can send them back, and we’ll replace them with the correct prescription. Or, you can return any order within 60 days of delivery for a full refund, including free return shipping.
What if my prescription changes, and I still have boxes left?
If you have unopened boxes of contacts laying around with your old prescription that you ordered from us, let us know. You can return them and use those savings on your new order.
HOME TRY-ON
How many glasses can I choose at a time?
For each home try-on, you can select up to 4 styles! If you’d like to try more than 4, you can repeat the process again, as often as you like.
You can also try on frames virtually, any time, right on our site! Try it here.
When does the clock start on my 5 days?
Your 5-day countdown begins on delivery day—when your try-on frames arrive at your door.
Will the try-on glasses include prescription lenses?
No. Whether you’re trying on glasses or sunglasses, they all come with the same clear demo lenses.
How do I return the frames when I’m done?
We include a prepaid return label in the box, so all you need to do is put the package in the mail or take it to your nearest post office.
Lose the label? No problem. Contact us and we’ll be happy to help you out.
What if the frames break or get damaged while I have them?
While we hope you treat our glasses carefully while they’re hanging out at your house, we understand that accidents happen. If you return all of the frames on time, you won’t be billed for them.
Why do you need my credit card info? Isn’t this free?
Collecting some form of payment information helps us make sure we get the glasses back. If you return all of your home try-on frames on time, you won’t be billed.
I want one of the pairs in my box! Do I just keep it?
No, we'll make you a fresh pair with your prescription and lens selection. Send all your styles back and order the ones you want on our site. The styles in your box are only for try-on purposes.
Do you clean the frames?
Yes! All try-on frames are disinfected and cleaned by hand every time they return to our lab. The frames you receive to try on at home may have minor signs of wear. If there are any major issues, please contact us.
Can I order sunglasses in my home try-on?
All our try-on frames come with clear, plastic lenses, so your try-on selection won’t look like sunglasses. But this doesn’t mean you can’t use home try-on to check their fit! You can also turn any of our frames into sunglasses, so you’ve got hundreds of options to choose from.
For a better sense of how sunglass lenses will look like on your face, you can use virtual try-on with any of our frames. Try it here.
