FAQ
GENERAL
What’s Hello Eyes all about?
We’re on a mission to help make shopping for glasses and contacts online a lot simpler and more convenient for everyone. Prescriptions can be such a hassle, especially if you’re not sure where you put it or if it still works. That’s why we created a free vision assessment to test your vision and recommend tools to help. At the end of the assessment, you get personalized results to guide your shopping experience—and maybe even save you a trip to the doctor’s office!
What payment methods do you accept?
All prices listed on our site are in CAD. We accept all standard credit and debit cards. Please note: we do not accept gift cards for home try-on orders.
How long will it take to get my order?
Your complete glasses order should take about 5-11 business days to arrive at your door. Specifically, we need about 2-5 days to manufacture your glasses (depending on your frames and customizations) and another 3-6 days for shipping.
Your contacts order should take about 4-7 business days to arrive at your door. Specifically, contacts usually ship within 24 hours (unless it’s out of stock and we need to order it). Shipping takes about 3-6 days.
VISION ASSESSMENT
How does the vision assessment work?
The vision assessment is a free guided experience designed to help make shopping for glasses easier. You’ll start by answering some simple questions about your vision history to give us a better sense of your vision needs. Then, you’ll tell us about your style preferences, so we can create a curated collection for you. The last part of the assessment is the vision check. This interactive tool checks to see if the prescription in your current glasses still works for you. You’ll wear your glasses, take about ten steps back, and then see how well you can read a series of letters on a digital eye chart at that distance. At the end of the assessment, you’ll get your personalized report. It includes your pass/fail result from the vision check, frame recommendations based on your style preferences, and any other offerings that could help make your shopping experience a little easier.
How much does the vision assessment cost?
It’s completely free. In fact, you can launch it right here right now if you want to.
What do my vision check results mean?
Passing the vision check portion of the assessment indicates that your current prescription still works for you and you can use it to shop with confidence.
If the digital eye chart is too blurry to make out the letters, that means your current prescription isn’t working as well as it once did and you’ll need to get a new one to see clearly. The good news is you can shop now and add your prescription anytime, even after checkout.
Lens Scanner
How do I conduct the scan?
The first step is syncing the app on your phone with a web address on your computer browser. The app will present you with a URL, which you’ll type into your browser window. Then use your phone to scan the QR code on your computer screen.
From there, you’ll position your glasses in-between the app and your desktop computer screen. The audio instructions will prompt you to tilt your glasses up and down to capture their prescription details.
The next step is calculating your Pupillary Distance (PD), or the distance between your pupils. To acquire it, you’ll be asked to hold a standard card (like a gym card) up to your forehead and take a selfie.
Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ll have everything you need to order a new pair of glasses using your existing prescription details.
How much does it cost to do the scan?
It’s free! You can scan as many glasses as you’d like.
How long does it take to do the scan at home?
Once you’ve downloaded the app, most users complete the scan in about 3-5 minutes.
How long do I have to wait for my results?
You’ll get your prescription details on both your phone and computer immediately. We recommend saving your results to your account or taking a screenshot to reference later.
Will the lens scanner work for me?
This tool only works on single-vision glasses. That means you’re good to go if you’re nearsighted, farsighted, or wear readers. It even works on lenses that correct for astigmatism.
It does not work on multifocal lenses, such as bifocals or progressives.
Specifically, the lens scanner can read prescriptions in this range: between -6.00 and +3.00, with a cylinder up to -2.50.
What do I need to complete the scan?
You’ll need:
• The Hello Eyes app (downloaded on your smartphone).
• A computer with a 12" screen or larger.
• A standard-sized card (like a debit card or library card).
Can I scan bifocal or progressive lenses?
Sadly, no. The tool only works on single-vision glasses. It cannot scan multifocal lenses, such as bifocals or progressives, at this time.
Can I use the prescription details to buy new glasses?
You sure can! Use this tool to extract the prescription details from a current pair of glasses. Then, save them to your account so you can use your existing prescription to shop for new favorites.
Can I use the lens scanner to get a new prescription?
No, this tool pulls the optical parameters from an existing pair of glasses. It cannot provide a brand new prescription or replace an eye exam. The lens scanner is helpful if you want to purchase new glasses using the same prescription in your current pair. Your prescription must be current and valid to order new glasses. The lens scanner has been tested and meets industry guidelines for accuracy. See full terms and conditions.
GLASSES
Can I make sure my glasses fit before buying them?
Yes! We have a few different features to help with fit. The first is home try-on, where you pick 4 frames, and we mail them to your house for free. This is a great way to explore your style and find the right fit for you!
For an instant option, try virtual try-on. This free feature is available for all of our frames.
We also have a free fit tool that does a quick scan of your face to recommend a size for you. You can try it here.
If you ever need a pair of Hello Eyes glasses adjusted, after purchase, we recommend visiting a local shop to ask for a fitting. It's usually free! But if they charge you for the service, we'll reimburse you up to $25. We also offer free returns for 60 days on all orders. So, if you order a pair and don't like the fit, you can return them for a full refund. We’ll even pay for return shipping! Just contact us for help.
Can I use my contacts prescription to order glasses?
No. A contact lenses prescription is different from a glasses prescription, because it includes a base curve and diameter measurement to fit the lenses to your eye. For this reason, you need different kinds of prescriptions for different products.
Not sure if you even need a new prescription? Our free vision assessment can test your current prescription to see if it still works for you.
How can I send you my prescription for my glasses?
You can add your prescription to your order during the checkout process. Or, if you prefer to wait until after checkout, simply head to your Hello Eyes account and select “view order details” to add it at a later time. You can upload a photo of it or type in the details manually.
I have a really weird prescription. Can you make glasses for me?
We can manufacture most prescriptions! Take a look at your prescription. If your total power (sphere + cylinder) adds up to a number within this range: between -12.00 and +6.00, we'll be able to make your glasses. If it's outside of that range or you’re not sure, please contact us to see if there's anything we can do.
Do you sell bifocals?
While we don't sell traditional bifocal lenses, if you need this type of correction, we do offer the more modern multifocal/progressive lenses that correct your vision at multiple distances.
Do you sell reading glasses?
We don't sell ready-made readers. But you can turn any frames on our site into a pair of readers by entering the + power you need into the "sphere" for your prescription. Contact us if you have questions and we'll help you through the process.
